Places to Visit
Fortress of Castrocaro
A majestic structure that has dominated the landscape for over a millennium, composed of three main areas: the Girone, the Rocca and the Medici Arsenals. Inside are the Historical-Archaeological Museum "L'Aquila, le Chiavi, il Giglio", the Church of Santa Barbara, the Torre delle Prigioni and the suggestive "Balcone dell'Acquacheta" with a spectacular view.
Praetorian Palace of Terra del Sole
An example of Renaissance architecture commissioned by Cosimo I de' Medici, today it houses the Museum of Man and the Environment. The visit route is divided into two main themes:
- Historical-architectural, with frescoes and restored rooms that tell the history of the fortress city.
- Ethno-anthropological, which reconstructs the daily life of the inhabitants up until the 1940s.
