“Figli di Troia” is the new comic monologue by Paolo Cevoli, scheduled for February 25, 2025 at 9:00 pm at the Diego Fabbri Theater in Forlì.
In this show, Cevoli revisits the legendary voyage of Aeneas in an ironic and contemporary way, comparing it to other voyages that have marked the history of humanity, such as those of Christopher Columbus, Little Red Riding Hood, the Viking prince Ragnar and his father Luciano, who emigrated to Australia in the 1950s.
Aeneas, a defeated hero, flees from burning Troy, carrying his gods, his father on his shoulders and his little son by the hand: symbols of his roots and hope for a better future. After many adventures, he reaches the mouth of the Tiber, where he finds a sow nursing, a prophetic sign of the place where he should stop.
While the women prepare focaccia, the Trojan exiles sacrifice the sow and her piglets, concluding the epic journey of the founder of Rome with a picnic of porchetta sandwiches.
Through this story, Paolo Cevoli aims to rediscover the values and roots of the Italian people, just as Virgil did when he wrote the Aeneid to give a noble lineage to the ancient Romans.
As Cevoli points out: “Rather than being the children of no one, it is better to be the children of Troy”.
