"With your hands in history" is a project full of activities for adults and children, designed to help them discover the millenary history of Castrocaro, known for its ancient village and its impregnable fortress dominating the Montone River valley.
The programme includes:
- Guided tour of the Fortress and the Historical-Archaeological Museum: A journey through the thousand-year history of the Fortress and the exhibits preserved in the museum.
- Guided tour of the medieval village: Discovering the stories hidden in the alleys of the medieval village leading to the Fortress.
- The archaeologist's craft' workshop: Learn the work of the archaeologist by reconstructing an excavation within reconstructed contexts in a box.
- Workshop 'The Fortress Defence System: Observe the walls and towers of the medieval fortress to discover the defensive systems and build a tower reproducing some examples of them.
Pretorio Palace in Terra del Sole
- Guided tour of Palazzo Pretorio and the Museum of Man and the Environment: Explore the rooms of the Renaissance Praetorian Palace and learn about local customs, traditions and legends.
- Guided tour of the Renaissance citadel of Terra del Sole: Discover the history of Terra del Sole, the fortified citadel commissioned by Cosimo I de' Medici.
- Roman floor mosaic' workshop: Make a design in black and white tesserae like Roman tessellarius.
- The 'Heraldic Coat of Arms' Workshop: Explore the collection of heraldic coats of arms in Palazzo Pretorio and create your own coat of arms.
Activities are by prior arrangement and can be combined. Costs vary depending on the activity chosen. The project will be held from June 2024 a October 2024.
