The route
Led by Laura Mengozzi, AIGAE Environmental Hiking Guide, we will follow a panoramic itinerary of approximately 6 km with a difference in altitude of +150 mThe route, of difficulty easy, winds through the gentle hills surrounding Castrocaro and Terra del Sole, offering spectacular views of the moonlit Montone valley.
The main stages
- Church of Santa Maria di CiolaAn ancient building, likely dating back to the 12th century, linked to the religious and rural history of the area. Guided tour inside with historical and artistic insights.
- Rock of Monte PoggioloAn ancient fifteenth-century fortress with a quadrilateral shape and four towers, it served as a strategic control point between the local lords and the papal lands. From its summit, a breathtaking view opens up, made even more magical by the night light. From here, you can also see the archaeological site of Ca' Belvedere, important for understanding the origins of human presence in Europe.
