The exhibition 'Pre-Raphaelites. Modern Renaissance' brings art to Forlì with an exhibition dedicated to the Pre-Raphaelites, considered precursors of the modern Renaissance

Pre-Raphaelite exhibition in Forlì.

The exhibition 'Pre-Raphaelites. Modern Renaissance"will be held at the Civic Museum San Domenico di Forlì from 24 February to 30 June 2024.
This exhibition will explore the important influence of Italian art, from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, on British visual culture, focusing in particular on the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Born in England in the 19th century, these rebellious artists sought to revitalise English painting, which was considered to be in decline, by challenging the rigid norms of the Royal Academy. The exhibition will present around 300 works, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and more, from European, American and Italian museums.

It will be the first time that works by old Italian masters will be juxtaposed with works by the British Pre-Raphaelites, offering a comprehensive view of the movement.

The exhibition will be divided into sections exploring the concept of artistic reinvention, documenting the contribution of British and Italian artists to this period of transformation. Organised by the Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì in collaboration with the Municipality of Forlì, the exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue edited by Dario Cimorelli Editore and will be staged in the evocative setting of the Church of San Giacomo and the large rooms of the Convent of San Domenico.
